19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks his maiden trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of the previous year.
Success also indicates the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.
His retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
He rescued four early break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
